KITCHEN DETAILS FOR MODERN LIVING / by Caroline Wilding

The kitchen is the heart of most homes. It's where the groggy morning moments happen and the celebrations end. With the open-concept home being in fashion, the trick to a kitchen that ties a home together becomes how to keep it from becoming visually overwhelming. The sink or counter that never has a dirty dish laying on it- just a lofty goal when life, time and just not being able to do it all get in the way?

I think that good design plans for real life and takes those imperfections and creates an elegant solution. It gives us a break rather than adding to our ever growing to do list.

This is a great area for those appliances that clutter up a counter as well as a breakfast station, housing the coffee maker, toaster, water kettle, coffee/ tea and the mismatched collection of travel mugs. If you don't want to see it you just close it up- instantly the space is pristine. In order to achieve this you need heavy duty pivoting pocket door hardware such as this one by Knape and Vogt .

This is a similar concept to close up the visual clutter. The full height sliding doors take all the appliance screens, appliances and objects and hide them so the space is serene and put together when not in use. To achieve this look you can utilize one of the Hafele HAWA system sliding door hardware sets and track. Hafele makes many sliding door hardware options depending on the door dimensions and weight. I like to recess the track so the bottom is flush or slightly recessed in the ceiling for a clean look.
